Posthumous Award

Policy Number 200-27

I. Purpose

A posthumous degree may be awarded by Olympic College to recognize the academic accomplishments made by a student prior to his/her death. The student must have been in good standing at the time of death.

II. Policy

Upon recommendation of the student’s program faculty, a posthumous degree or certificate may be awarded if the student completed at least 75% of the credit hour requirement for said degree or certificate at the time of death, and who met all other requirements for graduation. This recommendation will be made to the Registrar, Vice President for Instruction and to the President for final approval.

III. Procedure

An immediate family member or a College employee may make a request for the awarding of a posthumous degree or certificate. If a College employee makes the request, the family will be contacted before the awarding of the degree or certificate is approved. The awarding of a posthumous degree would be noted on the student’s transcript. An Administrative Waiver will be provided by the college to pay the graduate application fee.
