About Personal Counseling

Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and the student to promote health and well-being through effective behavior change. Counselors can help with clarifying what matters or personal values, exploring solutions, creating plans, setting goals, and identifying resources. Students often seek skills to better cope with conflicts and uncertainty, and to strengthen their self-esteem, self-efficacy, and self-determination.

HELPING YOU NAVIGATE LIFE’S CHALLENGES

Promote Health and Well-being

When tension leads to stress and stress impedes functioning, many students will seek support through counseling. Counselors may focus on helping you "get better at feeling" rather than "feeling better," or accept internal experiences (e.g., thoughts and emotions) rather than control them. You may work on the identification of personal values and engage in action/behavior that is congruent with those values, even while uncomfortable internal experiences persist.
