How to Apply for Student Employment

1Confirm Your Eligibility
  1. Confirm your eligibility for student employment. 

    • Regular Student Employment (RSE): Enrolled for at least 5 credits.

    • Federal Work-Study (FWS) and State Work-Study (SWS): Enrolled for at least 6 credits and have a financial aid award.

    • WorkFirst Work-Study (WFWS): Enrolled for at least 6 credits and have a referral from the WFWS Transitions Coordinator.

2Create an Account
  1. Create an account on Handshake with your student email address and student ID number.

3Upload Resume

Create your resume and upload it to your Handshake profile.

  • A resume template is available in the Career Center’s Resource Library in Handshake.  

  • Want to have your resume reviewed? Make an appointment with our Career Coach via Handshake’s Appointment Scheduler.

4Search Jobs
  • Select 'Jobs' and 'On-Campus.'

  • Use the search bar to narrow your search to jobs available based on your eligibility (FWS, SWS, WFWS, or RSE).  

  • Looking for a job in a specific campus department? Put the department name in the search bar in addition to your employment eligibility.

5Apply for the Job
  • Submit your resume. 
  • Some supervisors may request additional documents such as a cover letter or unofficial transcript which you will have to upload to your Handshake profile. 
    • Visit our Career Resources webpage for example Cover Letters.

6Complete Hiring Process

If selected, the supervisor interviews and initiates a background check. You will then be referred to the Career Center to complete hiring paperwork/orientation. 

Student Employment Definitions

Regular Student Employment

Regular Student Employment (RSE) is available to any students who is enrolled in at least five credits in any Olympic College program. This type of employment is not associated with financial aid. For more information, contact CareerCenter@olympic.edu. International students are also eligible for regular student employment but you may work on campus only. Visit the International Education webpage for further requirements and guidelines.
