Executive Order 9066, signed on February 19, 1942 allowed the military to take action to “protect the country” against sabotage by the enemy. The enemy was over 120,000 Americans of Japanese heritage, of which 2/3 were American Citizens. The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community was the first to be forced from their homes with 6 days notice, and incarcerated for 3 years.
