BAS in Filmmaking Application Checklist
The application review committee would like to share the sections of the BAS Filmmaking Application. While the application will not be available until January 1, 2026, you can begin gathering your course information, working on your reflective statement and other optional materials.
- Student Information: Applicants will need to provide information including but not limited to their first and last name, student ID, phone number, address, and how you heard about the BAS Filmmaking Program.
- Program Entry Requirements: Provide information on any in-progress associate degree, current filmmaking classes, or previous college-level coursework.
- Reflective Statement: Reflective statements will be reviewed and scored by Olympic College Film School Program faculty. Olympic College reserves the right to process submissions through a plagiarism checker (Turnitin). Provide three or more examples of how your unique experiences in filmmaking and personal attributes (background, identity, culture, beliefs, values, or experiences) will contribute to your success at the Olympic College Film School and align with the OC Film School Mission: We are committed to:

- Developing reflective, caring students who demonstrate professional behavior and commitment to lifelong learning and sustainable practices,

- Challenging students to become responsible decision-makers and to be accountable for the consequences of their actions.
- Professional Letter of Recommendation (Optional): You are encouraged to request one professional letter of recommendation from a professor, colleague, or supervisor. Please note: We will send the recommender a single request through the online application.
- Members of the application review team may not provide letters of recommendation: Professor Tim Hagan, Professor Aaron Drane, Professor Amy Hesketh, and Professor Craig Downing.
- Resume (Optional): The resume should describe the specific activities and responsibilities (roles) of your professional, volunteer, and academic film experiences. Include any activities, certifications, and skills relevant to filmmaking. Please indicate any languages spoken and fluency on the resume if seeking cultural wealth points for being multilingual. Resumes will be reviewed and scored by Olympic College Filmmaking Program faculty and staff.
- Portfolio: Applicants below 2.0 GPA remain eligible to apply and will be considered on the basis of a strong portfolio. In addition, all applicants with fewer than 25 filmmaking credits are required to submit a portfolio for review. All other applicants may submit a portfolio to strengthen their application, but it is not required. Your portfolio should showcase your knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Film Aesthetic / The Art of Film
- Acting for the Camera
- Screenwriting
- Producing
- Film Directing
- Cinematography / Digital Filmmaking
- Post-Production
- Budgets, schedules, film essays, shots lists, overheads, etc.
Portfolios may consist of video (demo reel), documents (scripts, credits, resume), and other samples (photography, art work, other-than-screenplay writing, etc.) that demonstrate your creative talent. Portfolios should be electronically submitted using a document with active links to your work.
- Important Notes: Please allow several weeks for your application to be processed.
- Transcript Evaluation Request Form: Fill out the Transcript Evaluation Request Form located on this website page. Submit all Official Transcripts from all post-secondary schools listed on the transcript evaluation request form.
- Course Syllabi: Film courses taken outside of OC will require course reviews. Please submit your course syllabi. You can either upload it to this application or attach it to an email to @email.
