Nursing students offer free blood pressure screenings at Silverdale YMCA

Olympic College nursing students will be performing free blood pressure screenings at Haselwood YMCA in Silverdale starting next week. Stop by to support our nursing students, and to take advantage of this essential diagnostic screening.

Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure and many of them are unaware they have it, according to the American Heart Association. The AMA describes high blood pressure as a "silent killer," noting that there are typically no symptoms, and that left untreated, high blood pressure can contribute to heart attack, stroke and other health issues.

Blood pressure screenings are an important part of general health care, and it's recommended that people 18 and older get their blood pressure tested at least once ever 2 to 5 years; people 40 or older, or younger people at risk of high blood pressure, should be tested every year, according to the Mayo Clinic.
