Emergency Procedures

Olympic College is committed to providing accurate and timely information in the event of an emergency. Here is what you can expect in an emergency situation:

CAMPUS ALERTS

All OC students and employees are automatically enrolled into the emergency alert system. Visit the Campus Alerts webpage for more info. The college will send out the following notifications:

• Drop, cover, and hold. Use desks, tables or the inside wall for cover.
• After the shaking stops, check for injuries.
• Evacuate to the assembly area.
• Report to emergency personnel at the evacuation site.

• Evacuate to the nearest Assembly Area using exit stairs.
• Do not use elevators.
• Take important personal belongings.
• Follow directions by safety personnel.
• Assist persons with special need or in wheelchairs. If necessary, stage persons by stairs furthest from harm.
• Go to an evacuation assembly area and check in.
• If necessary, emergency personnel may direct you to a secondary assembly area.

• Call ext. 7800.
• Leave the hazardous area.
• Follow emergency personnel instructions.
• Alert others to stay clear.
• Notify emergency personnel if you have been exposed.

• Remain calm.
• Provide assistance to others.
• Turn off or unplug all electronics.
• Move cautiously to a well-lit area.
• Evacuate the building.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

• Do not let anyone into a locked building or room without authorization.
• Do not physically confront the person.
• Do not block the person’s access to an exit.
• Call ext. 7800. Provide as much information as possible about the person, description, and their location.

SUSPICIOUS OBJECT

• Do not touch or disturb object.
• Call ext. 7800.
• Notify your instructor or supervisor.
• Be prepared to evacuate.
• Check-in with your instructor or supervisor.

RUN

• If safe, RUN.
• Leave your belongings behind.
• Do not run in a straight line.

HIDE

• Turn off lights and lock the doors.
• Remain silent, including cellphones.
• Get on the floor and move to a safe area.
• Hide behind large items (e.g., cabinets, desks)
• Call ext. 7800.
• Do not activate fire alarm pull stations.
• Do not move wounded people.
• When police arrive, put up your hands.
• Follow police instructions.

IF YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER, FIGHT

• Control the intruder’s weapon.
• Fight the intruder as a group.
• Throw things at the intruder.
• Use improvised weapons.
• If possible, take the intruder to the ground.
