Olympic College announces end to vaccination requirements

News Release for Immediate Release

On Nov. 1, Olympic College announced an end to COVID-19 vaccination verification requirements that had been in place under the state of emergency.

Effective Nov. 1, all students and employees may visit our campuses regardless of their vaccination status. This includes accessing services like the library, tutoring, the bookstore, computer labs, athletics events and more, which are all now open to everyone to attend in person.

“The college is excited to fully open up our campuses to everyone,” said Olympic College President Marty Cavalluzzi, Ph.D. “We are proud of the work we did to keep our campuses safe during the pandemic, but it is time to welcome everyone back.”

The end of the state of emergency declared by Governor Inslee also brought an end to all remaining emergency proclamations in place, including Higher Education Proclamation 20-12.5. Under the proclamation, colleges were required to declare a fully-vaccinated or not-fully vaccinated status. Under the fully-vaccinated designation, only those students and employees who verified their vaccination status or had an approved exemption on file were allowed on campus.

Previously, students who had not verified their vaccination status with the college or were not granted an exemption, were restricted from taking in-person classes or using on-campus services. Those restrictions will not be in place when winter quarter enrollment begins on Nov. 7 for continuing and former students, and Nov. 21 for new students.

Olympic College remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of our campuses. To that end, the college will continue to track and report confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 on our campuses. For more information, visit the Olympic College COVID-19 webpage.

This winter, Olympic College will offer hundreds of in-person classes. During the pandemic, the college shifted many programs and services online. Students will continue to benefit from the flexibility of more online and in-person options than ever before.

Also, this winter, the college is expanding food options including re-opening the Olympic Cafe and Espresso Bar.

“There has never been a better time to enroll at Olympic College,” Cavalluzzi said. “In-person and online, you’ll find the programs and services you need to achieve your goals.”

The college is also launching a new website, which goes live Nov. 9. The new website will make it easier to navigate important admissions and enrollment processes.
