Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)
FERPA is a US federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. Under the OC FERPA Policy, students have the right to inspect their student records, correct their student record, and control the disclosure of certain student records. The following records are deemed Directory Information and can be without a student’s consent, unless the student opts out:
- Name
- Major field of study
- Dates of attendance
- Full-time or part-time status
- Degrees, awards and honors received
- Dates degrees conferred
- Participation in recognized sports and weight and height of athletic team members
- Birth date
- Veteran status
Public Records
As a state funded agency in Washington, all content posted to Olympic College social media is considered public record and must be managed, retained, and made available for public access according to state laws.
