The Blacksmith’s Knife is a great course for any student looking to create something both useful and memorable. This beginning bladesmithing class introduces the fundamentals of the craft, including proper hammering techniques, heat‑treating basics, filing methods, and safe tool use. Whether you’ve never stood near a blazing forge or already have a little experience, this class offers skills you can build on. Students will learn essential blacksmithing safety, become familiar with forging equipment, and practice drawing, tapering, and upsetting metal.

Forest and Stream Ecology of the PNW - Hiking a Beaver Trail

Let’s hike amongst the towering cedar and fir, experiencing the wetland vegetation and wildlife that thrives around and in our local ponds and streams.
Learn how beavers shape the landscape and understand how that activity transforms waterways into productive habitats for a diversity of life. We will listen and watch for migratory and resident birds that rely on these protected wetlands for shelter and food. And we will trace the life cycle of salmon through the waterways we pass. Be sure to dress for the weather.
