The OC Film School named Top 10 Visual & Performing Arts College

The OC Film School recently received international recognition as one of the best visual and performing arts institutions in the U.S.

The film school was named a Top 10 Fine Visual & Performing Arts College in the U.S. by Higher Education Review, a magazine based out of India that covers higher education institutions.

The list was published in the magazine’s April 2023 issue and was put together by a team of industry veterans, CEOs, VCs, and the magazine’s editorial team.

The OC Film School “has been able to offer innovative programs that challenge its students to develop their critical thinking capabilities which in turn helps them to grow into passionate learners,” the magazine wrote.

The article highlights many of the film school’s unique assets, including professional facilities. The magazine noted that the school offers “a state-of-the-art soundstage with Hollywood flats and furnishings, a VR makerspace with green screen studio, acting studio, wood/scene shop, wardrobe room, editing labs, DaVinci Resolve Advanced Color Panel studio, and ADR/looping recording room, as well as dedicated filmmaking resources in its library.”

“Olympic College has built a world-class film school right here in Bremerton by giving students hands-on experience, providing them with professional facilities and equipment, and offering instruction from faculty who work in the film industry,” Amy said.

Students have access to the latest equipment, the magazine noted, writing that our “filmmaking equipment inventory and computers [are] equal to those currently used in the industry.”

Also touted were the program’s small class sizes, which offer individualized instruction, and opportunities to participate in extracurricular events and hear from guest speakers who work in the film industry. And students get the best of both words when it comes to film theory versus practical experience; students get “hands-on training integrated with film theory which helps the students to realize their true potential,” the magazine wrote.

It’s been validating to see the film program recognized, said OC Film School Faculty and Program Coordinator Amy Hesketh.

“It’s awesome to see our efforts recognized by an international magazine, and we’re excited to continue pushing the envelope of what the OC Film School can offer to students,” Amy said.
