Olympic College launches new Phlebotomy certificate programs
BREMERTON – Olympic College is launching two new Phlebotomy certificate programs fall and winter quarters as part of the college’s ongoing initiative to expand healthcare programs to meet growing demand for healthcare workers.
Launching this fall, the Phlebotomy for Healthcare Professionals Certificate of Recognition program, designed for working healthcare professionals, can be completed in just one quarter. And the Phlebotomy Certificate of Completion program, launching Winter Quarter, can be completed in as little as two quarters with both online and evening in-person coursework.
Upon completion of either program, students are eligible to take the national certification exam and fulfill the State of Washington Department of Health certification requirements for becoming a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy (MA-P).
Alecia Nye, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, praised the new programs as an essential part of the college’s healthcare expansion.
“As the demand for skilled healthcare workers continues to grow, our new Phlebotomy certificate programs are a timely addition to our offerings,” she said. “These programs equip students with skills that can help them excel in their roles as medical assistants.”
Olympic College President Marty Cavalluzzi said these programs will help meet growing demand for new employees in the healthcare industry.
"Olympic College is proud to expand our healthcare education programs with the launch of these new Phlebotomy certificate programs,” he said. “The launch of these new programs reflects our ongoing commitment to addressing critical healthcare workforce shortages and providing our students with valuable opportunities for career advancement. By offering these programs, we are not only supporting the needs of our local healthcare providers but also empowering our students to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry."
Healthcare expansion is made possible thanks to generous funding support from Kitsap County which contributed $6 million of American Recovery Plan Act funding, and $2.5 million from Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Health Sciences Expansion at Olympic College is an ambitious project that could result in 600 additional students across ten new proposed programs pending approval by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
“We are incredibly grateful to our project partners, without whom these new programs would not be possible,” said Cavalluzzi.
In January, Olympic College launched its first new program under the project – Corpsman/Medic to Licensed Practical Nurse. This innovative new offering is the first of its kind in Washington to offer college credit to Navy and Air Force veterans for pervious military experience.
