The years following the Cold War brought seismic transformation to Russia. The collapse of old certainties and the emergence of new freedoms left a generation of children to make sense of it all through their most natural language: art. This exhibition brings together works created by Russian children between 1992 and 1996, a period of profound social, political, and cultural upheaval that reshaped everyday life from the classroom to the kitchen table.

These artworks assembled by young hands navigating a world in flux offer a window into the lives of children who grew up straddling two worlds. Neither fully Soviet nor yet accustomed to the changing world, they processed their reality through color, imagination, and the unfiltered honesty that only childhood can produce. Their subjects range from family, nature, and play to the quietly telling of a new consumerism appearing in storefronts, national symbols in transition, and landscapes marked by both pride and uncertainty.

This exhibition invites viewers to set aside the geopolitical narrative and encounter this era through its most intimate witnesses. These children were not historians, but their artwork is a historical record of unguarded humanity. In an age of sweeping change, they remind us that wonder, curiosity, and the need to express oneself persist through even the most turbulent of times.
