Olympic College’s Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, Dr. Alecia Nye, was given the Women of Achievement Education Award by the Kitsap County YWCA at a luncheon on October 24.

Each year, the local YWCA chapter gathers nominations for its Women of Achievement awards. From those nominees, they select honorees who have made significant contributions in several categories such as the arts and public service. The education award is given to a nominee who inspires lifelong learning in others and makes significant contributions to education.

Dr. Nye has a long track record of creating educational opportunities in healthcare, in addition to her 16 years of clinical experience. Before joining OC, she was in the nursing faculty at several colleges throughout Washington, including at OC. As dean, she has created new pathways for veterans and non-matriculated students to achieve degrees in nursing. She developed faculty for an online teaching certificate during the pandemic. And under her guidance, enrollment in the LPN to RN program and the RN-BSN programs have increased by around 15%.

“I am honored to receive the award,” Dr. Nye said. “Without support from dedicated faculty and staff who lead with me behind the scenes, I would not have been nominated.” She added that the award motivates her to continue supporting students and building new educational opportunities in healthcare.

Congratulations, Dr. Nye!
