Olympic College student Kelsey Morgan ventured to Centralia College on July 26 to share her inspirational story of her journey to becoming a college student. Kelsey was named a top-five finalist at the annual Statewide Inspirational Speech Championships. She was accompanied by OC Communications Professor Laura Bourmatnov.
Professor Bourmatnov, who teaches Public Speaking, encourages her students to participate in the championships each year. In 2022, OC student Levi Pixton earned top honors at the competition for his moving speech about his mother, who overcame many obstacles after becoming pregnant at a young age.
Levi, now a WSU graduate, returned to the competition this year as a distinguished alum and past champion, serving as a coach and mentor to the five finalists.
“I'm extremely proud of both of them,” Bourmatnov said. “They have shown the rest of the state the high level of achievement our students are capable of.”
