BREMERTON, Wash. – The Student Government of Olympic College (SGOC) has invested in campus improvements designed
to enhance student well-being, accessibility and inclusion with a major renovation of the Bldg. 9 locker rooms.
In Fall 2022, SGOC conducted a student interest survey that received 495 responses. Based on student feedback, SGOC allocated $1 million in Services and Activities (S&A) fees toward the Bldg. 9 locker room renovation. S&A fees are quarterly student fees that support campus facilities, activities and student life.
Of that investment, $40,000 was dedicated to installing new lockers in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. The project also includes two commercial washers and dryers to support the athletic center and provide additional on-campus laundry resources for students.
The renovated locker rooms now feature private shower stalls, addressing a previous gap in privacy and accessibility.
SGOC also allocated up to $50,000 to expand gender-neutral restroom options across campus. Olympic College has increased and will continue to expand access to single-occupancy, lockable restrooms at multiple locations, supporting students who benefit from more inclusive campus facilities.
“Student voices helped shape these improvements, and we’re proud to invest student fees in resources that make campus more welcoming and accessible,” said SGOC president BreAnna Taylor. “These upgrades reflect our commitment to student well-being and creating a campus where everyone feels supported.”
Together, these improvements represent SGOC’s ongoing commitment to listening to students, responding to their needs and enhancing the campus experience for the Olympic College community.
“Being student centered means listening to students and responding to the needs they identify,” said Olympic College Dr. President Chantae Recasner. “I’m grateful to SGOC for its leadership in creating spaces that support privacy, accessibility and well-being. These improvements help students feel welcomed and supported so they can focus on their education.”
