For American citizens, your right to vote may be the most powerful tool you have for influencing governmental policies in Washington state and the United States. Here in Washington, we have a history of close elections, which means every single vote is important.

Washington was one of the first states in the nation to implement a secure online voter registration system, making it as easy as possible to participate in the democratic process.

Registration Requirements

To register to vote in Washington, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A legal resident of the state of Washington
  • 18 years of age by the next election
  • Not under the authority of the Department of Corrections for a Washington felony conviction
  • Not disqualified from voting due to a court order               

Dates and Deadlines:

July 4      Deadline for voter registration, address change and other updates

July 15    Ballots are mailed out and drop boxes are available at voting centers.

July 25    Deadline for new Washington State voter registration (in person only)

Aug. 2      Election Day
