The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will provide a guest lecture on Building Wealth Through Saving and Investing, on Tuesday, November 17th at 3pm in Bldg 7, Rm 311.
Tom Manganello from the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Assistance will provide a brief overview of the mission of the SEC and discuss a three-step roadmap for building wealth by making tax-advantaged accounts, like 401ks and IRAs, the foundational building blocks of an investing portfolio. The workshop will also touch on smart use of credit and the importance of having an emergency fund.
Additional investing concepts will include how investments grow through compounding, how diversification can reduce the risk of investing, and how frequent trading and even sports betting can impact your finances. The presentation will also highlight how to spot the red flags of scams, especially the rising trend of relationship investment scams that begin with seemingly accidental texts or social media contacts and can lead to devastating losses and repeat victimization.
