Olympic College student club Alianza Cultural Latinoamericana, in partnership with the community nonprofit We Are Better Together Foundation, is hosting a student-led Día de Muertos celebration for the broader OC community. Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a cultural tradition that honors and celebrates loved ones who have passed away through remembrance, community, and celebration.
Through this event, Alianza and We Are Better Together hope to share the cultural significance of Día de Muertos while creating an inclusive space for students, employees, and community members to learn about and participate in the tradition, whether they grew up celebrating it or are experiencing it for the first time.
Festivities will include face painting, temporary tattoos, coloring, custom cookies, mask decorating, candy bags, a photo booth, marigold making, Lotería, and miniature skull piñata making. These activities will offer opportunities for cultural learning, creativity, connection, and honoring loved ones.
