Important Steps to Utilize Your Refund
1Set up BankMobile Refund Option
When your aid disburses, any excess financial aid funds will be routed to you through BankMobile. Make sure to enter your refund preferences (direct deposit, BankMobile Vibe, or check) ahead of time so you get your refund quickly and securely. Please ensure your mobile phone number has been added to your ctcLink to avoid delays in receiving your refund.
2Don't forget to check
Eligible students will automatically receive a credit amount based on the number of credits you are enrolled in. Visit the OC Bookstore early to pick up your materials and let your aid cover the cost.
3Keep an eye on your OC student email
This is where we’ll send all Fall 2025 updates about your aid disbursement, bookstore credit, refunds, and anything you need to know.
FAQ
Why are refunds delayed until after add/drop?
The U.S. Department of Education requires us to confirm your final enrollment after the add/drop period. This step ensures your financial aid is accurate, protects you from having to repay funds you’re not eligible for due to enrollment changes, and helps prevent fraudulent activity. It also keeps us in compliance with federal rules and safeguards taxpayer dollars.
How do I use my bookstore authorization?
If you qualify, the Financial Aid Office will notify the OC Bookstore of your anticipated credit amount each quarter based on your enrollment level:
- 12+ credits: up to $500
- 9–11 credits: up to $335
- 6–8 credits: up to $225
- Fewer than 6 credits: up to $100
But here’s what you must do before using it:
Submit all required financial aid paperwork (such as FAFSA/WASFA, tax transcripts, verification forms).
Ensure your file is verified and completed by the Financial Aid team.
Without these steps, your bookstore credit won’t be approved so don’t delay submitting your documents. Once approved, you can visit the OC Bookstore in the first two weeks of the quarter, grab your textbooks and materials, and the cost will be covered by your aid once it is disbursed.
What happens if I don’t use all of my book authorization?
If you don’t spend the full amount of your book authorization, the leftover funds (along with any extra financial aid you’re getting) will be refunded to you after the add/drop deadline.
What if my books cost more than the book authorization allows?
If your books cost more than the amount you've been approved for, come by the Welcome Center and talk with us. Your authorization is based on the financial aid you’re expected to receive for the quarter.
Can I use my book authorization somewhere else or get it as cash to buy books on my own?
Book authorizations can only be used at the OC Bookstore either in person or online. They can’t be turned into cash or used at other stores. Let us know if you need help figuring out how to order what you need through the bookstore!
How can I confirm that all my checklists have been received?
Log in to ctcLink and go to your Student Center (under Student Services or Campus Community).
Locate the To-Do List or Tasks tile which shows checklist items you still need to submit. Click More or View To-Do Items to expand the list and to learn on how to complete the outstanding checklist.
