New Healthcare Programs at Olympic College Will Improve Regional Health, Fill In-Demand Jobs, and Empower Local Students
News Release for Immediate Release
Poulsbo, Wash. – Olympic College is launching two new healthcare programs – Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiologic Technology – that will prepare students for essential, high-paying roles while directly improving access to healthcare services that lead to the health and well-being of our region.
Both programs received final approval from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities in April 2025 and are now enrolling for their first cohorts, beginning Fall Quarter 2025 at the college’s newly renovated Poulsbo Campus.
“These programs were built to serve the needs of our community – from filling healthcare workforce gaps to giving local residents the training they need for stable, well-paying careers,” said Olympic College President Marty Cavalluzzi. “The long-term health of our region depends on access to high-quality care, and that starts with local education.”
Olympic College’s Healthcare Expansion Project is supported by more than $8.7 million in funding from Kitsap County Commissioners, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, and the Washington State Legislature, enabling the college to open doors for students while strengthening the local healthcare system.
The new Diagnostic Medical Sonography program educates students in the science of using ultrasound imaging to help providers diagnose and monitor a wide range of health conditions. In just seven quarters, students will be prepared to sit for national certification exams and enter a fast-paced, patient-focused profession.
The Radiologic Technology program prepares students to become certified radiologic technologists, skilled in capturing high-quality diagnostic images in hospitals, clinics, and mobile settings. The program also spans seven quarters and blends general education with specialized, hands-on training.
“These programs are built around student success and regional impact,” said Dr. Alecia Nye, Dean of Nursing & Allied Health at Olympic College. “They give students access to outstanding facilities, expert instruction, and a direct pathway to make a difference in the lives of patients right here in Kitsap and Mason counties.”
Both programs will be housed in the college’s new healthcare training facility at the Poulsbo Campus, which includes modern classrooms, simulation labs, and industry-grade imaging suites. Construction is expected to be completed by September 2025.
The Radiologic Technology and Sonography programs join a growing list of healthcare offerings at Olympic College, including Phlebotomy, Corpsman/Medic to Practical Nurse, and Surgical Technologist programs launched as part of Phase I of the Healthcare Expansion Project.
Enrollment is open now for Fall 2025. Visit the Olympic College website to learn more about the Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiologic Technology programs.
