OC Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

15 Wednesday February

BREMERTON – The inaugural Olympic College Hall of Fame class includes student-athletes, coaches, and teams spanning the entire 71-year history of the college.

Hall of Fame members were announced today, in advance of a celebration and banquet scheduled for June 10 at OC’s Bremer Student Center.  “We are really excited to announce the first class of inductees to the OC Athletic Hall of Fame,” said Athletic Director Barry Janusch. “We have such a rich history of athletics and this recognition really is long overdue.”

Inductees include hard-hitting defensive back Mike O’Brien, who finished college playing football for the California State Golden Bears, followed by a short stint with the Seattle Seahawks.

Also among the inductees is softball player Erika Quint, who was a First Team All-League pitcher. She completed her collegiate athletic career at Western Washington University where she was among the all-time leaders in strikeouts, shutouts, wins, complete games and innings pitched.

Phil Pesco coached basketball at OC for 14 years starting in 1946 – the year the college opened. His teams won six league championships, finishing third at the Junior College Nationals in 1949.

Charolette York was a trailblazing coach and professor who spent 30 years at OC coaching volleyball, tennis and basketball. She was a tireless advocate for women’s sports, especially during the early years of Title IX. The Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Championship Most Valuable Player award is named for her.

Athletes, coaches and contributors were selected based on a range of criteria that includes accomplishments on the field and in the classroom, contribution to the programs, and achievement in public life.

The OC Athletic Hall of Fame and induction celebration is a partnership between OC Athletics and the OC Foundation. More information about the Hall of Fame is available here: https://www.olympic.edu/athletics/olympic-college-athletics-hall-fame.
