BREMERTON – Olympic College shatters the mold of the traditional film school with its latest bachelor’s program set to launch this fall.
Our Bachelor's program in Digital Filmmaking promises a world-class program, where students gain hands-on-experience at a fraction of the cost of other programs.
Most film schools are offered at universities or private colleges, where tuition can be much more expensive than community colleges like OC. The OC film school features a 2+2 model, where students first complete their associate degree, then advance to enroll in the bachelor’s program.
The OC Film School will be housed in the college’s newest building, the College Instruction Center, which opens this fall. Students will have access to a brand new facility with all of the equipment you would expect to find in a professional production studio. This includes a Sound Stage, Media Production Studio, Dedicated Editing Suites, Screening Theatre, gear checkout with all new production equipment, Mac computers with industry standard software, prop and costume shops.
Unlike other programs where students endure years of film theory before gaining access to film equipment, OC students can check out and start using gear right away. Often times, students at other institutions are required to pick an area of specialization, which limits their exposure to the other skill areas. A distinguishing characteristic of the OC Film School is its collaborative approach that encourages students to learn all aspects of filmmaking from directing, to cinematography, screenwriting, editing, producing and acting.
While the equipment and facilities are state-of-the-art, the faculty is what really sets this program apart. Timothy Hagan, Founder/Director of The OC Film School has been with Olympic College since 2006. He designed, developed and implemented our new filmmaking department.
“The OC Film School is committed to serving the authentic needs of the emerging digital filmmaking artist of the 21st century,” Hagan said. “Our program is designed with today’s film market in mind, where new media distribution platforms like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and You Tube Red are seeing exponential growth.”
Hagan is a member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He appeared in some of the largest TV shows of the 1970’s and 80’s. He has directed film and theater in both Los Angeles and New York, worked in Hollywood as a screenwriter, and taught and built programs at several public colleges and private conservatories.
Also on staff is screenwriting and production professor Aaron Drane. His latest film, The Charnel House, ran in theaters in October 2016, and is currently streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Born and raised in Bremerton, Aaron moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in filmmaking. He sold three feature-length screenplays in different genres to 20th Century-Fox, and wrote-produced the acclaimed FEARnet web series FEAR CLINIC. Aaron is a member of the Writers Guild and Producers Guild of America and is thrilled to return to his hometown to teach and share his passion for film with OC students.
Rounding out the staff is Professor Amy Hesketh. Amy has collectively written, produced, directed, and acted in over nine feature-length films, pushing the boundaries for female directors and filmmakers, along with challenging the genre limitations for cinema itself. Along the way, Amy has garnered numerous awards and press such as the prestigious Reconocimiento Award for her contributions to Bolivian cinema.
The College is now accepting applications for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Digital Filmmaking program for fall quarter. This is your opportunity to earn degrees in Digital Filmmaking with instruction from industry pros in a brand new facility.
