International Student Admission Requirements

International Student Admission Requirements

  •     No TOEFL or IELTS required for placement in Intensive English (IE) courses
  •     Applicants should have completed some English study in their high school or college.
  •     Upon arrival, students will be tested for English skills and placed at the appropriate level of study in our Intensive English courses.
  •     While TOEFL scores are not required, if the applicant has taken the test, the scores will be used as part of the skill level assessment for placement in Academic courses

The following minimum scores will be accepted for placement into English 101 (English Composition 1):

  • TOEFL: 72 - Total score of 72 with a writing scaled score of 21 or higher.
  • IELTS: 6.5 - Overall band score of 6.5 with a 6.0 or higher in each band.

If English Proficiency is demonstrated by one of following ways, the student will be eligible to take the college level assessment (English/Math) test.

  • TOEFL 61/173/500 (iBT: 61 with no lower than sub score of 15)
  • IELTS  5.5 (no band lower than 5.0)
  • STEP-Eiken  Grade 2A /Grade Pre-1
  • Other equivalent examinations at OC Testing Center for English skills and placement levels.
  • Completion of the appropriate ESL level at Language Schools

Students with TOEFL  55/157/480 score usually take one or two quarters of English instruction or Intensive English and other selected classes, to improve their writing, reading, speaking and pronunciation skills as prerequisite to college course work.
