Mike Latimer wrestled for Olympic College from 1967-1968.  The 1967 team finished 9-2, placing 5thin the Washington State Junior College Championship Tournament.  Latimer was named ‘Most Improved’ along with teammate Phil Lundberg. 

In his sophomore year, Latimer was named team captain.  He led the team to an 8-3-1 record.  In the state tournament, Latimer won the championship in the 177 lb weight division. 

After the season, Latimer was offered a scholarship to wrestle at Washington State University.  In this junior season, he made the NCAA tournament in the 191 lb weight class, though he lost in the first round.  Determined, Latimer returned his senior season ready to make his mark.  He won the Pac-8 championship in the 190 lb weight class.  He won his first two matches at the NCAA tournament before losing to the eventual champion.  He fought back to win the first match of the consolation bracket, setting him up to finish top 8.  Though he battled in his final collegiate match, Latimer lost 1-2 and finished 7th.
