Jakan Austin embarks on his first year as Head Coach at Olympic College. He prides himself on helping OC students go on to achieve success not only on the field, but also in life. He is honored that many of the students he has coached have moved on to higher education and to pursue their professional dreams. As a former thrower, he built a weight-lifting program that will help the team become stronger as a whole. The students are getting a quality education while becoming stronger physically. He believes, it is also a metaphor for life. Strong minds as well as strong bodies are the keys to success.
As an Olympic High School record holder, he has given back to the school that sparked his interest in the sport by coaching the throwers at his old stomping ground. Who knows? Many of those same students may be able to use his strategies to pay for their education through sports.
Coach Austin is a certified Level 1 member of the USA Track and Field Association and looks forward to growing as a coach and mentor to the next generation of athletes.
