Accounting Technology

The Olympic College Accounting Technology program is designed to prepare students for employment in public accounting, private accounting, government, and not-for-profit agencies. This program also provides an excellent basis for obtaining living-wage employment while engaging in further accounting or business studies.

Current wage information can be found for each career option. After finding the career option in O*NET OnLine, click on Wages & Employment, click Local Salary Info, select Washington, and click Go.

  • Currently no license is required for many accounting careers in Washington State. Students are encouraged to research career goals as more employers are seeking employees with degrees and may also require specific certifications (i.e. CPA).
  • Students interested in Tax Preparation careers are encouraged to visit the National Association of Tax Consultants (NATC) website to find the latest requirements and explore further career options.
  • As of 2011, the IRS requires paid tax preparers to also have a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
  • Most positions require the employee be bondable with a good credit rating and no prior criminal activity.
