With the increasing demand for clinical reasoning abilities and rapid changes in healthcare delivery,
baccalaureate nurse education contributes to positive patient outcomes. To keep pace with the changing
expectations of employers and the evolving workplace environment, many RNs have found it important to
seek additional nursing education.
In today's employment market, the nurse who has earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing has increased
opportunities. In addition, some nursing career paths are open only to those holding a bachelor's degree.
In the 2010 Institute of Medicine Report
"The Future of Nursing Leading Change, Advancing Health",
one of the recommendations is to increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate education to 80% by 2020.
