What is English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)?
ESOL offers classes that help adults with limited English skills. There are 5 different levels ranging from beginner to advanced focusing on reading and writing and speaking and listening. Other classes include Pronunciation, both beginner and advanced, Conversation and Fundamentals of Grammar.
Who qualifies for ESOL?
Non-native speakers who have basic literacy needs and want to improve either or both reading and writing or speaking and listening skills may qualify for the program.
How do I begin ESOL classes?
New students must call and set up an appointment for an orientation. See ESOL main page for orientation dates.
What is involved at orientation?
During orientation, students will take a variety of assessments to determine skill level as well as complete necessary, mandated paperwork and register for class.
What is CASAS testing?
CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) testing assesses student skill level in reading and listening and is used to place students into the appropriate level.
How much are ESOL classes?
$25.00 per quarter. Classes may be available at no cost. To see if you qualify for a tuition waiver, please contact 475-7550.
Where are classes located?
ESOL classes are located at each of the three main campuses as well as offsite locations in the Shelton, Belfair and Poulsbo areas.
