Student Services at Olympic College exist to provide students with a variety of opportunities for growth and development and the support they need to take advantage of those opportunities. We believe that we are an integral part of the educational mission of the college.
The learning that we foster usually takes place outside the classroom in the counselor's office or a student club's meeting room. The learning that we strive to foster in students often has more to do with experiential learning than the "book learning" that is the focus of the classroom. A student who plays on a campus athletic team or serves in student government often learns a great deal about working effectively with other people and develops skills that will last a lifetime. All Student Services offices and staff try to provide the unique combination of challenge and support that result in a new way of looking at life and a new set of skills to manage it.
We know that our students are real people with families and jobs and money troubles and responsibilities that compete with schooling. Student Services help students succeed in college by helping them overcome many real-life barriers that can end a college career. In order to successfully manage all these parts of their lives, students often need some very concrete kinds of support. Many programs in Student Services are designed to assist in very concrete ways in addition to fostering development. Child care, Financial Aid, Counseling, Supportive Services, Women's Programs, etc. are examples of these kinds of supports.
And all students need someone to keep track of their accomplishments and provide a record of these accomplishments to other schools and to employers. Registration and Records exists to provide these services to students.
