3 Tips for Great Photos Using Your Digital Camera!
by Theresa Aubin-Ahrens

Know what the controls on your camera do.   Rather than trying to figure out what your camera does on your own, work with a professional.  It is amazing what you can do when
you know from someone with experience which setting to use.

Use the rule of thirds. When composing your photos,
divide your frame into thirds both horizontally and
vertically and then put your subject at one of the intersections. The rule of thirds helps you create an asymmetrical balance to your photos that will make your photos more active.

Pay attention to the background.  Look to see what is going on in the background of your photo. Is it too busy? Will it distract from what you want the viewer to see? Sometimes just one step one direction or the other can eliminate things in the background that compete with your subject.

Theresa on why she enjoys teaching through Continuing Education...

I have taught various classes through Continuing Education on and off for over 15 years now, for students from 10 years old to 65 and over. What I love is that no matter what the age, the students share the same curiosity and willingness to try new things. They come here because they want to learn more. I love that I can share with them tips and techniques they had not thought of, and give them a real appreciation for the medium. It gives me a chance to teach just for the fun of meeting new people and sharing what I love to do. Teaching doesn't get better than that!

I much enjoyed seeing the high desert country and the wind turbines were very impressive.

Lots of interesting ideas were exchanged between the various passengers, not only about alternative energy sources but also about urban planning, energy conservation, and pollution reduction.
