Non-Traditional Students

There is no longer any such thing as a "typical" college student, especially in a community college. More and more people are starting college nowadays, of all ages, with a variety of backgrounds.

One of the strengths of Olympic College is the diversity of its student population. There are students whose ages range from their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and higher. Students come from a range of socio-economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. There are students who are single parents, some who are holding down full-time jobs, some who have been laid off, and some who are looking to start a whole new career after retirement.

A common source of anxiety for people who want to start college is the fear that they will not "fit in." Since there is such a variety of OC students with only their educational and professional goals in common, there really isn't any way to not fit in!

Check out the Orientation link at the left. This orientation session should address any concerns you may have about learning, social interactions, and the impact being a college student may have on your job and/or home life. It will provide an opportunity to share your questions and concerns and to begin meeting new friends.
