The Olympic College Jazz Classic was first introduced in 1985 as the Port Gardner Jazz Festival, then the Elliott Bay Jazz Festival, by long time jazz educator Dave Cross. We at Olympic College are proud to have the opportunity to carry on the tradition of this outstanding festival to educators and young musicians throughout the Northwest.
We are fortunate to have leading educators throughout the Northwest who believe in vocal jazz education for the elementary, middle school, junior high and high school student. I believe it is because of these musicians’ dedication to and love of the genre that we are able to offer a festival that is truly education based. By maintaining constant contact with leading higher education instructors, I hope this festival will continue to help share knowledge and ideas in vocal jazz. I am proud to have the opportunity to carry on the tradition of this outstanding festival.
