Program Description:
The Olympic College Nursing Assistant Program will prepare students to assist registered nurses or licensed practical nurses in providing basic nursing care for clients in acute and long-term settings. The classes will be geared toward developing basic nursing assistant skills in an applied setting. The training will include learning and refining client care skills, clinical observation, and performing skills in a supervised clinical setting. Instruction will include tools to promote a successful job search and behaviors in the workplace. The Nursing Assistant Program is approved by the Washington Department of Health and the Department of Social and Health Services.
Your Future:
Some Certified Nursing Assistants choose to pursue a career in nursing, using their nursing assistant training as valuable experience in becoming a successful nurse. The majority of nursing assistants find pleasure and reward in serving residents in hospitals and long-term care facilities, and home health settings.
Your Opportunities:
Upon completion of the Nursing Assistant Program, students are eligible to take the state certification exam, which must be passed in order to be certified as a nursing assistant in the State of Washington. Wages depend upon experience and place of employment. Starting wages range from $9.00 to $12.00 per hour.
