Medical assistants are multi-skilled practitioners who perform a wide range of roles in physicians’ offices and other health care settings performing both administrative and clinical duties.


There are two options for preparation for this career at Olympic College The certificate Program is a 4 quarter, full-time program which begins every September and runs for a year. It requires a total of 61 credits. The program concludes with a supervised, unpaid externship in a medical office.


Prerequisites

To begin this program students need:

  • Intermediate keyboarding skills (30 wpm in a 5-minute timing with 5 or fewer errors.)
  • Minimum score of 43 in numerical skills on the ASSET test or successful completion of Math 90.
  • Recommended minimum score 42 in writing skills on the ASSET test or successful completion of English courses.

Good physical and emotional health to withstand the stresses of a fast-paced medical office environment that has many interruptions to well-planned schedules.
