OFTEC 101--One-Handed Keyboard

Course Description:
Students will learn and develop skill in alphanumeric keyboarding and 20-key data entry using a one-handed keyboard.

OFTEC 102--Screen Magnification

Credits: 1      Weekly Hours: 2 hours lab
Course Description:
Students will acquire the skills and knowledge to access and manipulate text using screen magnification.

OFTEC 103--Braille Translation and Printing

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 104.
Course Description:
Comprehensive introduction to translating an ink-print document into Braille using a Braille translation program and printing in Braille.

OFTEC 104--Voice Output Level 1

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Prerequisite: Keyboard skills.
Course Description:
An introduction to the basics of voice-output software using JAWS for Windows. Provides instruction on using basic keyboard commands that allow students to access and hear text voiced on the computer screen.

OFTEC 105--Voice Output Level 2

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 104.
Course Description:
Students will build on the knowledge learned in OFTEC 104. Course provides instruction on producing, reading, and manipulating a word processing document using PC curser commands to access menu bars and icons.

OFTEC 106--Voice Output Level 3

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 105.
Course Description:
Students will build on the knowledge learned in OFTEC 105. Provides instruction on the use of voice output to access and read graphic based, mouse driven environments, such as Windows desktop and web pages.

OFTEC 107--Voice Recognition Level 1

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Course Description:
Introduction to the fundamentals of voice-activated software using DragonDictate. Provides instruction on using basic voice-activated input commands, including how to build voice files, dictate a simple written document, and correct errors.

OFTEC 108--Voice Recognition Level 2

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 107.
Course Description:
Builds on the fundamentals of voice recognition learned in OFTEC 107. Provides instruction on using intermediate voice-activated input commands, focusing on how to format and manipulate a document.

OFTEC 109--Voice Recognition Level 3

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 6 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 108.
Course Description:
Students will build on the knowledge learned in OFTEC 108. Course provides instruction on using advanced voice commands to imitate a mouse driven environment related to Windows and the Internet.

OFTEC 110--Beginning Keyboarding

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 1 hour lecture, 4 hours lab
Course Description:
Learn and develop skill in alphanumeric keyboarding, 10-key data entry, basic computer functions, and basic document formatting. (Tech Prep Articulated)

OFTEC 111--Speed and Accuracy Keyboarding

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 1 hour lecture, 4 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 110 or equivalent.
Course Description:
The objectives of the course are to improve both speed and accuracy of alphabetical and numerical keyboarding skills using the touch system and to provide training in keyboarding test techniques. (Formerly BS-EC 111)

OFTEC 112--Introduction to Word Processing

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 1 hour lecture, 4 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 135 or OFTEC 141, keyboarding proficiency at 30+ NWAM or permission of instructor.
Course Description:
Develop industry-standard formatting and production skills with MS Word or WordPerfect word processing software by keying letters, memos, reports, tables, agendas, minutes of meetings, itineraries, financial statements, etc. Includes mail merge, use of graphics, editing/proofreading, and keyboarding skill development. OFTEC 115--Speed and Accuracy Keyboarding

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 1 hour lecture, 4 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 111; course designed to improve skill beyond that achieved in OFTEC 111.
Course Description:

OFTEC 121--Practical Accounting

Prerequisite: Numerical skills ASSET score of 43 or higher, completion of MATH 090 with a grade of 2.0 or higher, or permission of instructor.
Course Description:

OFTEC 123--Payroll Accounting

Prerequisite: OFTEC 121 or BS-EC 251 with a grade of 2.0 or higher.
Course Description:
A course designed to provide information and study regarding the benefits, taxes, payroll deductions, and employment accounting records incidental to the social security and tax program. (Formerly BS-EC 123)

OFTEC 124--Electronic Printing Calculators

Course Description:
Control and operation of electronic printing and display calculators. Emphasis is on attaining minimum office proficiency. (Formerly BS-EC 124)

OFTEC 126--Introduction to MS Publisher

Course Description:
A practical, hands-on approach to using Microsoft Publisher for designing and creating newsletters, stationary, flyers, brochures, and other common business documents. Text required. (Pass/No Credit) (Same as CMPTR 126)

Prerequisite: OFTEC 152 or pass MOUS Excel proficiency or permission of instructor.
Course Description:
Comprehensive approach to learning the advanced commands in MS Excel 2000. Prepares completers to utilize Excel in business settings and over the web or pass the MOUS Excel Expert Exam. (Same as CMPTR 129) (Formerly BS-EC 129)

Course Description:

Course Description:

OFTEC 139--Quickbooks

Prerequisite: CMPTR 150 and OFTEC 121 or BS-EC 251 or permission of instructor.
Course Description:
This course will provide a foundation in QuickBooks software. It will cover a review of fundamental accounting principles and include practical applications.

Prerequisite: MATH 090 with a grade of 2.0 or above or satisfactory placement test score.
Course Description:
A course designed to develop the mathematical knowledge needed by college students to meet the demands of modern business. Emphasis is placed on developing the ability to solve practical business problems quickly and accurately. (Formerly BS-EC 140)

OFTEC 141--MS Word Basics

Course Description:
Comprehensive approach to learning the basic commands in MS Word 2000. Prepares completers to utilize Word in business settings or pass the MOUS Word Core Exam. (Same as CMPTR 141) (Formerly BS-EC 135A) (Tech Prep Articulated)

OFTEC 142--Microsoft Publisher Basics

Credits: 3      Weekly Hours: 1 hour lecture, 4 hours lab
Prerequisite: OFTEC 110 or equivalent proficiency.
Course Description:
Develop industry-standard desktop publishing skills with a practical, hands-on approach to Microsoft Publisher. Design and create newsletters, stationery, flyers, brochures, and other common business documents. Emphasis is on problem solving, publication design, and proofreading/editing skills. OFTEC 152--Spreadsheet for Business Excel

Prerequisite: CMPTR 150.
Course Description:
Comprehensive approach to learning the basic commands in MS Excel 2000. Prepares completers to utilize Excel in business settings, pass the MOUS Excel Core Exam, or meet entrance requirements for the UW Business School. (Formerly BS-EC 137A) (Tech Prep Articulated)

OFTEC 156--Business English

Prerequisite: ASSET test assessment at college level reading and writing or ENGL 099.
Course Description:

Course Description:
A study of legal terminology including definitions, spelling, and correct usage in legal communications and case law. (Formerly BS-EC 274)

OFTEC 180--Integration of Software Applications

Credits: 2      Weekly Hours: 2 hours lecture
Prerequisite: CMPTR 150 or permission of instructor.
Course Description:
Complete projects using several computer application platforms and the world wide web to reinforce understanding of and proficiency in using and integrating between word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software applications. This course will accommodate several audiences, including, but not limited to, students needing elective credit and wanting to strengthen their computer application skills beyond core expectations to the potential student currently employed and seeking to enhance their professional growth in computer applications.

Course Description:
Introduction to the technical skill of machine transcription to produce correspondence that meets office standards. Includes applied language skill review, document formatting, proofreading, editing, listening, and decision-making skills. Information on various career fields in business is included.

OFTEC 213--Legal Typing & Transcription

Course Description:
Legal typing simulations and advanced practice using a word processing program and a transcription machine with emphasis on accuracy, correct formatting, and proper English usage in legal documents. For students intending to work in law offices. (Formerly BS-EC 113)

OFTEC 262--Administrative Office Management

Course Description:
Designed for students with sophomore standing who are completing the 2 year ATA degree in Administrative Office Support, or the Office Management core within Business Management, or for currently employed office personnel desiring to expand their knowledge of office management.
