LEED Education Features
Handouts and permanent wall displays were featured and have been in place since the date of the building’s Grand Opening celebration, April 28, 2010. The first public open-house tours of the LEED educational elements took place that date.

Brochures describing sustainability, the LEED program and sustainability features of the building are available at the Welcome kiosk located in the front lobby. The Welcome kiosk is open 8 am to 4:30 pm on days classes are in session. There is no charge for the tour or for the brochures. The brochures and the wall display maps are available at the links below.  They are the same as the hard copies available at the Welcome kiosk in the event that the brochures run out or the Welcome kiosk is not open at the time someone wishes to take a tour.

Wall Displays
There are seven, wall mounted color super-graphic displays with photos and text, 30 inches x 84 inches. As with the brochure, the displays cover the following topics: (1) a general introduction to Sustainability, (2) the LEED program, and (3) Washington State/Olympic College’s commitments to sustainable design. The remaining six displays focus on one of the LEED categories of performance standards. The displays elucidate what they mean and how this project achieves those goals. All wall displays are in open, public areas accessible by stairs and an elevator.

The Tour
First Floor – Three displays: Introduction to Sustainability and the LEED program, Energy & Atmosphere, and Materials & Resources.
Second Floor – Two displays: Water Efficiency and Innovation in Design.
Third Floor – Two displays: Sustainable Sites and Indoor Environmental Quality.

The locations are strategically placed to route the visitor throughout all public areas of the building, thus engaging them in not only reading the displays, but also experiencing the abundant natural light and other sensory features of the building. Visitors will learn that a seemingly “normal” building can be constructed and operated in a very sustainable manner.
