How do I know if this course is for me?
As a college student, your success is influenced by your ability to learn effectively and efficiently. If you are like most students, you've never been given the opportunity to discover how to learn in a way that maximizes your time, effort, and strengths. This course introduces you to study techniques that help you ìlearn smarter, not harder.î
Being a college student is a lifestyle in the sense that your time, resources, employment, health, and/or relationships are all affected by your educational needs. While most students realize the importance of succeeding in their academics, students often underestimate how these other aspects of life will impact their college experience. To succeed, you will need to be able to manage these other aspects of your life, as well as your learning. This course therefore also explores self-management topics.
If you are new to college, you will discover that there is a ìcollege cultureî with which you need to become comfortable. There are new phrases, new ways of doing things, new responsibilities, people with unfamiliar functions on the campus with whom you will need to interact, and certain procedures that you will need to follow. There are also lots of ways to enjoy yourself - make new friends, become involved in recreational activities, and develop new interests. This course will help familiarize you with these sorts of things.
