We're glad that you are interested in our OC's Adult High School Completion program. Below is the information that you need to begin studying for your diploma.

Here are some frequently asked questions: How do I enroll in the High School Completion program? How much will it cost me? What courses will I have to take? What about the WASL and other Education Reform requirements?

                         How do I enroll in the High School Completion program?

Bring a sealed official copy of your high school transcript to a meeting with one of the counselors. Or, have high school(s) and/or college(s) you attended send official transcripts to:

If the class you would have graduated with has not yet graduated, you must also obtain a high school release form from the high school in your district, signed by the principal, counselor, or other school official, and by your parent.

Contact the Counseling Center at 360-475-7530, Bremerton campus or 360-432-5430, Shelton campus to make an appointment for an evaluation of your transcripts and a determination of what courses are still needed. If transcripts are not already on file, you should bring a copy of your high school work and documentation of any other experiences which you intend to use toward the diploma (such as correspondence courses, military service schools, or vocational training).

It is a good idea to apply for admission to the college in advance of the meeting with the counselor. You can do that at this location.

If you will be needing to take English or mathematics, you will need to take our placement test, Accuplacer, to determine where you can start to increase the likelihood of your success. You can arrange to take the test at our online appointments site. There is a $15 charge for the test.

                How much will it cost me?

If you are 19 years old or older, a Washington State resident, and attending to get your high school diploma, the State of Washington subsidizes your tuition as a form of financial aid. For the 2008-9 academic year, tuition will be $18.60 per credit per quarter. (Costs are subject to change.)  There are also some fees that will be assessed, at approximately $50 for full-time enrollment.

If you are under 19 or not a Washington State resident, you must pay regular college tuition of $74.30 per credit plus fees of about $50 for full-time enrollment. A chart of tuition charges at various numbers of credits is available online.

In addition to tuition and fees, books must be purchased and can run $50 to $100 or more per quarter. When you are ready to apply for your diploma, there will be a $10 fee.

                What courses will I have to take?

An evaluation must be done before we can tell you what courses you need to complete your diploma. You may take high school-level courses or college-level courses, and when you take college-level courses, you are able to apply them to the diploma and also toward an Associate's Degree.

We use the state requirements for the diploma. A total of 19 credits are required and are spread among English, mathematics, U.S. history, Washington State history, contemporary world problems, science, physical education, occupational subjects, and electives. You must complete at least 10 credits at Olympic College with a 2.0 or "C" average, regardless of how many credits you need to earn your diploma.

                What about the WASL and other Education Reform requirements?

Students who began high school in 2004 or after are required to meet the Ed Reform requirements in order to graduate. We do not do WASL testing at Olympic, so that test must be taken at the local high school. The High School and Beyond Plan and the Culminating Project can be included in activities completed at Olympic.
