Olympic College Community Luncheon 2011

Hear from students featured at the OC Community Luncheon!

On Monday, October 10th, we held our 16th annual Olympic College Fall Community

Luncheon, on Columbus Day.

During the luncheon, OC culinary students prepared and served a delicious hot meal to more than 300 community guests, while the OC jazz band provided entertainment.  Guests then heard from several OC students who have benefitted from scholarships and grants, enabling them to reach their educational goals.  Two of the students featured experienced homelessness while studying at Olympic College.  The assistance they received helped them to stay in school so that they could gain the vital job skills necessary to earn a living wage.

As the keynote speaker, recent OC alumna Stella Heard shared her story of traveling from Kenya to the United States, motivated by a desire to make a better life for herself and her two daughters. She spoke about the ridicule and hardship she experienced in her village for daring to be a girl who wanted to become educated, and the gratitude she felt for the financial help she received which enabled her to complete her education at Olympic College.

During the event, members of our community made an investment in the future of our students, our programs, and the communities we serve.  Together with our event sponsors, they contributed more than $100,000 to support students and programs of Olympic College!

It is not too late for you to join us in this effort to help students – every gift makes an impact at Olympic College!  Gifts of all sizes help us to provide support to our students, enabling them to become employed and give back to our community!
